We know that the weather isn’t always great and The Bay nearly always gets sunshine at some point in the day, but if you are stuck for things to do – here is a list of 10 things to do when you are at The Bay. 

Stay On the Bay

With a large indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym in the Leisure Centre and the Main complex housing the John Paul Jones Pub, Four Cats CafΓ© and the family centre (arcade), there is always something to within a short walking distance of your property!

The Scarborough Fair Collection – 4 miles from The Bay

One of the best kept secrets just down the coast and an ideal family bad weather friendly day out. Featuring:

Playdale Farm Park – 5 miles from The Bay

Playdale Farm park is a great day our for all the family whatever the weather. Down in the barn, youll get to meet and feed Alpacas, goats, ponies, sheep, Llamas, rabbits, guinea pigs and many more. 

There is also a frisbee golf centre as well as pedal go karts and in the rain there is a large indoor ball pool, tractor zone, adventure trail and more. 

Mini Monsterz – 7 miles from The Bay

Mini Monsterz is a huge indoor play area, and a fantastic party venue, with some of the biggest slides in North Yorkshire!

The older kids have access to a huge Junior frame with a sports area, ball cannons and tons more features to get to grips with and plenty of space to do it in.

Also available are 4 Go-Karts on the purposely built track, for you to race against up to 3 of your friends!

The Toddler area is a dedicated frame away from the Juniors, and also boasts loads of features for the little explorers, Awesome!

They offer unlimited play time, that means that unlike other places, you pay a one off price and stay as long as you want within the opening hours! Serious fun is experienced so plan your day to make the most of the unlimited time limit.

Rotunda Museum – 7 miles from The Bay

Step into the history of Scarborough at the Rotunda Museum.

Spread over two floors, this museum opened in 1829 and was one of the first purpose built museums in the world. It takes you for a walk through history, starting around 65 million years ago! The impressive nearly complete skeleton of the Speeton Plesiosaur precedes dinosaur footprints, dinosaur models and lots of information from this pre-historic time.

The history of the area is brought to life with the story of the Gristhorpe man and his bronze-age skeleton and a display on stone-age man and a look at the genealogy of the area. The Star Carr is a display of artefacts from from a Mesolithic site, which is regarded as one of the most important sites of its kind in Great Britain. Every room in the museum features a fun and educational surprise that’ll keep you entertained on the rainiest of days!

Olympia Bowl and Softplay – 6 miles from The Bay

On the top of one of the biggest arcades in the country is Olympia Bowl – Olympia Bowl has 12 lanes with its modernised interior, updated scoring system and air conditioning, is a fantastic place to relax and have fun with the kids.

The Percy Parrot soft play area has been very popular, they have moved it to the mezzanine floor where they have children’s rides, games and loads of redemption! There is also plenty of seating for parents keeping a watchful eye in comfort.

They also have a kart track and video games.

Sea Life Centre – Scarborough – 8 miles from The bay

Whether you’re fascinated by sharks or love with penguins, SEA LIFE Scarborough has a special underwater treat for all the family!

There are all sorts of exciting animals to see here, you’ll get to walk through the Ocean Tunnel and see the rescued Loggerhead Sea Turtle swimming around you, keep your eyes out for Black Tip Reef Sharks too. Take a trip to the unique walk through Penguin Island, where you can learn to waddle with over 20 Humboldt Penguins, they love coming over and saying hello!

Open from February half term, step into the Rainforest Adventure and come up close to all sorts of creatures, including lizards, poisonous frogs and all sorts of creepy crawlies. 

John Bull World of Rock – 6 miles from The Bay

Entry to the tour will give you access to the public viewing gallery where you can see rock, biscuits and chocolates being produced. The factory tour is self-guided so you can spend as long as you like viewing the factory production areas. Typically, a visit will last between half an hour and an hour and depends on whether you choose to take part in the rock rolling or chocolate lolly making activities.

Plus John Bull’s Candy Kingdom is a purpose built indoor adventure play venue designed for children aged 0 to 12 years and right alongside the factory and tour experience! Parents can chill with a Capuccino while the children explore the soft play activities and burn off all the sugar they just consumed: ideal!

The Baby area for kids under 3 years features an enclosed fun little play area where your baby can explore safely with age appropriate amusements like ride-on toys, cute rockers and a baby gym with padded equipment.

The Toddler area for kids 1 to 4 years comprises another enclosed play area this time specially designed for adventurous but still young children and this pleasant area includes a 2 lane mini-astra-slide, climbing ramps, mysterious floating balls and a ball pool!

Then the Junior area, which is for kids aged 5 to 12 years: this triple level play frame has lots to keep even the big jobs entertained and features a 4 lane astra-slide, a cool little maze, awesome trampoline, serious spiral slide and loads more besides, like a Sports Arena with goals and basketball nets!

Candy Kingdom – Soft Play Area – Bridlington

John Bull’s Candy Kingdom is a Wonka Style wonderland of a softplay venue, especially designed for children aged 0 to 12 years to have massive fun and equally huge exercise while the parents, well… don’t!

Parents can simply chill out with a capuccino and recuperate while the children do what they do best: leg it about shouting and exploring! The soft play activities and physical play challenges are ideal to burn off all the sugar they probably just consumed at World Of Rock: handy!

The Baby area is for kids under 3 years old and features a segregated little play area where the babies can safely explore with all age appropriate entertainments like cute rockers, ride-on toys and a baby gym with padded play equipment.

Their Toddler area is for kids 1 to 4 years comprises another nicely enclosed play area time all specially designed for adventurous youngsters and this pleasing and exciting area includes a dual lane mini-astra-slide, climbing ramps, mysterious floating balls and a ball pool!

Then there’s the Junior area, which is for kids aged 5 to 12 years: this 3 storey adventure play structure has plenty to keep even the big jobs and the hardcore adventurers entertained, with features including a 4 lane racing slide, smart little maze, bouncy trampoline, dizzying spiral slide and loads more besides, like a Sports Arena with goals and basketball nets!

And it’s all right alongside the John Bull World of Rock factory and tour experience! So long as you’ve got the right season you’re on for extending your day in great ways – but word to the wise folks: do the sugar before the play! 

North Yorks Moors Railway – Pickering

Fancy a trip to Hogsmeade; the famous train station seen in Harry Potter? Then take a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and enjoy a day out filled with magic, surprises and fun!

One of the most famous stops on the North Yorkshire Moors railway is Goathland. This is the station used in the very first Harry Potter film, and is the regular home to Heartbeat’s fictional train station Aidensfield

Hop aboard an old steam train and admire the stunning countryside that Yorkshire has to offer. You’ll see beautiful bridges, fresh meadows and tantalising tunnels plus much more on your travels. With plenty of great locations to stop off at too this is a great day out that will keep everyone entertained all day long.
